As the September 7 election approaches, it seems that whatever the outcome, we can expect no respite where asylum seekers are concerned. Australia now has one of the most entrenched draconian official responses when meeting those fleeing from harm.

This church has no shame in standing against the tide and urging a change in conversation that welcomes refugees and provides a safe haven where dignity and peace can be restored.
