Record support for National Reconciliation Week | Reconciliation Australia Blog

Record support for National Reconciliation Week | Reconciliation Australia Blog.

In spite of nary a word in mainstream media, the National Reconciliation process is under way where it counts – on the ground! We hear of city councils, initially reluctant to get involved, ┬ábeginning to embrace Reconciliation Action Plans. The John & Jane Does of our local communities are beginning to recognise the significance of the bunting and banners that flutter this week from businesses similarly engaged. Even so, much remains to be done to raise awareness and a will for change in pockets of our country where neglect and exploitation remain endemic.

  1. A presence in central Perth (Forrest Chase) on Saturday would have been a good idea. There was nothing, except for banners on the flagpoles.

  2. Yes, the main event (organised by the Sorry Day Committee) was in Wellington Square and then the Archie Roach concert later at Winthrop Hall. Apparently It’s very difficult to get the usual critical mass (schools and businesses) out on a Saturday morning. Even so, a proactive City Council might have seen an opportunity for some time this week here, There are a few events around the metro area throughout the week organised through local councils, but you have to search to find them.
